Ever feel like money is this mysterious force that either blesses you or vanishes when you blink? That is because your financial reality often starts in your head long before it shows up in your bank account. Your mindset shapes your choices, your habits and ultimately, the flow of money into your life. Resetting your money mindset is not about wishful thinking, it is about rewiring your brain to recognize opportunities, make aligned choices and treat money as a tool rather than a constraint. Back to the hub here.
Understanding Money as Energy
Money isn’t just numbers on a screen or paper in your wallet, IT”S ENERGY. Think of it as the lifeblood of you intentions. When you view money as energy, every transaction becomes conscious exchange rather than a source of stress. Energy flows where attention goes and how you feel about money influences the way it flows to you.
Identifying Limiting Beliefs
Before you can shift your mindset, you need to know what is holding you back.
Common Money Blocks
- I will never have enough.
- Money is the root of all evil.
- I am just not good with money.
Do any of these statements ring true to your thoughts around money? Really think about your view of money. Is it a view of a negative point, or of a positive point? It really does matter.
Recognizing Personal Money Stories
Take a moment to reflect on your money narrative. Were you taught to fear debt? Do you believe you can be wealthy, or is it reserved for others? The stories you heard growing up, the way money was handled, all influenced your behavior with money.
My story is nothing is free. When I went to my parents and asked for an allowance, my father said sure, here are your chores (extra) to earn my $1.00 a week allowance. When payday came, he gave me my dollar than asked for his 10 cents. “Why do I have to give you a dime, Dad?” “Jen, it costs money to live, and nothing is free. Your dime will help pay for rent, room and board really, because we do not charge you for food.” Needless to say, I did not go without that dime, but it put me in a certain mindset, that I have been learning to adapt.
The Psychology of Abundance
Scarcity Mindset vs Abundance Mindset
A scarcity mindset focuses on limitations, there is never enough time, money or opportunity. An Abundance mindset focuses on possibility, growth and resourcefulness. The difference? Scarcity creates stress. Abundance creates freedom.
How Beliefs Shape Reality
Your thoughts about money are not just idle chatter in your head. They influence every financial choice. Believing you deserve wealth opens doors, while believing you don’t can close them before they even appear. This goes with the thought of Law of Attraction.
Techniques to Shift Limiting Beliefs
Affirmations for Financial Confidence are simple statements like, “I am worthy of financial abundance” or Money flows easily to me” can retrain your energy flow. This is true in how you think and perceive money. Now you must take action.
Visualization Exercises
Picture your ideal financial life. What does your bank account look like? What do you do with your time to work towards that bank account? Do you see yourself writing from your sun room with the early morning light filtering in? Maybe your at a beach marketing the latest service that betters lifestyles. Do some day dreaming.
Journaling for Money Clarity
Write down your money fears, goals, and wins. This practice helps you identify patterns and release limiting beliefs. I like to repeat this every quarter. I use my bank account as a guide on if the actions I am taking are forward or lateral movements. Then adjust accordingly.
Building Financial Confidence
Small Wins for Big Mindset Shifts
Start small. Pay off a minor debt. Save fifty dollars or negotiate a bill down. Every win reinforces the belief that you can handle your finances. This also helps you believe your communication skills are strong enough to convey your thoughts. This is very important in successful mindset.
Celebrate Progress and Growth
Acknowledge the wins, no matter how small. Celebrate progress, create momentum and makes goals feel attainable. The first payment I received from being an affiliate marketer, I bought my husband and I ice cream cones from the local shop. It was not a big celebration, but it was a special event to mark my first “sale”. This brings the energy level up.
Practical Steps to Cultivate an Abundant Mindset
Daily Habits that reinforce abundance. These can be simple easy things done everyday that will form a new “highway” of thought around money. This is just a small list that I usually do. Not all of them everyday, but some of them most days.
- Morning Affirmations
- Tracking Expenses Mindfully
- Practicing Generosity
- Rounding Up or Down to add to a “rainy day jar”
Gratitude Practices Around Money
Being grateful for what you have, even small amounts, shifts focus from scarcity to abundance. This is a hard one to remember when everything seems to go wrong. When the actions are being done, but you do not see relief in sight. But by remembering, I learned something today, I have a full belly and my environment is safe puts things into perspective. Money is not the all of everything. Just a tool to get other things.
Surrounding Yourself with Positivity
Who you hang with matters. Connect with people who inspire financial growth and healthy money habits. Learn tricks and hacks from your peers, friends and mentors. Financial knowledge is not generally taught in school. Learning how to manage, invest, properly handle money, how to take risks and what to look for in the “markets” are things people learn over time and experience. Meet people with the same interests with you and you will pick up “golden nuggets” almost like osmosis.
Reframing Money Challenges
Learning from Mistakes and Obstacles
A late bill comes in the mail, the hot water tank is going out. These are unexpected obstacles. Learning from these mistakes and adjusting accordingly, could save you stress later and even save you some money in the long run.
Learn to keep track what bills are taken out or due from which account, look at the accounts regularly. You can adapt and stay on top of payments when you know what is due and when and even if the bill does not arrive, you can pay it and be done with it. Put all your extra change in a jar, can, what ever you have. When that hot water tank dies, you can pay cash and save the expense of fees because you did not plan for the unplanned and had to put it on a credit card.
The Role of Emotional Awareness
How Emotions Influence Spending and Saving
Stress, excitement, or boredom can trigger impulsive spending. Recognizing emotional triggers prevents money sabotage. There are techniques you can use for emotional regulation. These are my favorite ones to use and they have saved me many times from making unwise financial choices.
- Pause before purchase
- Deep breathing and meditation on what I need vs what I want
- Journaling. Reflecting on why I want to make that purchase
By taking a 24 hour period after I “put it in my cart” and doing the above steps, I have found that my budget cleaned up about $5000.00 in a 90 day period. I thought that was amazing. I did not realize that my emotional spending was so high. This is no longer the case.
Aligning Money Goals with Personal Values
What does money truly mean to you? Wealth is not just digits, it’s freedom, security and most importantly, the ability to help others. Clarify you “why” to make money work for you. Your why will change as time moves on, that is great. Adapt it as necessary. Organize it.
Setting Intentional Financial Goals
Now you have an idea of your “why”. What are the financial goals that have to be hit to achieve your why? Define your goals. Let’s just say your goal is to live in a home in a rural area. Your requirement for that goal will have to be xyz to include all expenses to maintain that lifestyle. Once your goal is defined and you know what it would take to achieve it financially, you can create a workable plan.
Creating a Mindful Money Plan
Budgeting with Clarity and Calm
Budgets are not restrictive. They are empowering tools to allocate energy and resources wisely. They are fluid and can be maneuvered to cover unexpected events, obstacles, risks if done right. Remember earlier when I mentioned money is energy. Focus that energy on what truly is working towards your goal. Focusing on the goal, not the money means the energy is flowing in the directions you set forth. The money will come by you taking the proper actions.
Leveraging Money as a Tool
Money is for freedom, not stress. Think of money as a vehicle to get you to your goal. Align spending on requirements needed to attain that goal. If you want to buy a house, you should not spend on extra luxuries that are not needed and divert that money to a fund for the house. Spend more wisely at the grocery store and pack a lunch for work. These are just little habits that can create money to use as a tool.
Using Resources to Create Opportunities
Invest in education, experiences or tools that expand your possibilities instead of hoarding out of fear. Yes having a savings is great. But if you can use a little of that savings to up your skillset to help you understand how to increase your financial well being, wouldn’t it be worth it? Whether you take an accounting class at the local college, or maybe you do a mastermind coarse on business, you increase your skillset, and that is always a great thing.
Breaking Generational Money Patterns
Understanding and Rewriting Inherited Beliefs
Most of us learn our money habits from our parents. We learn how to count currency in school. What if your parents didn’t include you in the financial discussions? Never taught you how to set up accounts for investing? Then it is up to you to learn. There are so many resources available to learn new skills, once you do, you teach the next person of the family. Eventually, the inherited beliefs of money is turned around.
Choose wisely which beliefs you pass on, this will affect future generations. We all want generational wealth, but very few understand how to create it. But once created, it must be taught to have the family retain it.
Sustaining Your Money Mindset Reset
I find morning gratitude, reflection and affirmations keep my mindset aligned. It keeps the long term mindset for financial freedom ongoing and fluid. I have become better at it and will learn as much as I can and keep applying what I think will work best for me. By being able to shift my beliefs and cultivating an abundant perspective, my stress over money has dropped. Try it. It will work for you too!
