The Last Remembered Story — Every generation leaves a story behind. Not every story is remembered.
Some stories disappear quietly. A name survives in a family record, but the person behind it is forgotten. A date is written down, but no one remembers what happened on that day. A marriage is recorded, but the love story, arguments, hopes, fears, and choices that filled the years between are lost. And somewhere between the names and dates, entire lives disappear into silence.
This is where The Last Remembered Story begins.
A historical family saga inspired by real ancestry, forgotten stories, and the generations of people whose lives eventually became part of our own. Because none of us truly begin with ourselves.
Behind every one of us are generations of people who loved, survived, struggled, made mistakes, built families, crossed borders, and carried pieces of their world forward.
- Some left behind letters.
- Some left behind photographs.
- Some left behind nothing but a name.
And sometimes, that is enough to begin imagining the story.
A Family Story Across Generations
The Last Remembered Story follows the long journey of a family through generations.
Each book opens another door.
- Another home.
- Another time.
- Another love story.
- Another generation standing at the edge of a life they cannot yet imagine.
The people may change. The century may change. The country may change. But something continues.
- A family.
- A memory.
- An inheritance.
A story carried quietly from one generation to the next. Some things are passed down deliberately.
- A piece of jewelry.
- A book.
- A family recipe.
- A trade.
- A name.
Other things travel through generations without anyone realizing it.
- Strength.
- Fear.
- Faith.
- Traditions.
- Ways of loving.
- Ways of surviving.
And stories that are repeated so often that eventually no one remembers where they began.
The Last Remembered Story is about those things. The things we can hold in our hands. And the things we carry inside us.
Inspired by Real Family History
This series began with genealogy. I started where most family research begins. With names.
- Parents.
- Grandparents.
- Great-grandparents.
Then the family tree continued to grow. The farther back I traveled, the more I began finding people whose lives existed only in fragments.
- A name.
- A birthplace.
- A marriage.
- A child.
- A date of death.
Sometimes there was a little more. Sometimes there was almost nothing. But every name belonged to someone who lived a complete life. Someone loved them. Someone depended on them. Someone may have remembered them long after they were gone.
And eventually, someone forgot.
Genealogy can tell us where a person fits in a family. It can tell us who came before and who came after. But there are things a record cannot tell us.
- Who did they fall in love with?
- What made them laugh?
- What did they fear?
- What did they dream of?
- What happened inside the homes where they lived?
- What choices did they make that changed the generations that followed?
The Last Remembered Story was born from those questions.
The stories are historical fiction. The conversations are imagined. The private moments belong to the world of the novels. But beneath the stories are real family connections, real places, real history, and the long thread of ancestry that eventually led to the present.
I began researching my family tree.
Somewhere along the way, I found stories waiting to be remembered.

Book One
The Locket and the Ledger
Some inheritances are never spoken of. Some are stitched.
The first book in The Last Remembered Story begins in a world shaped by trade, faith, family, danger, and the choices that quietly determine what will be carried forward.
When Jacques Talemann first sees a woman kneeling in a rain-soaked Antwerp street, gathering a stranger’s spilled catch of fish with her bare hands, he knows before she has said a single word that she is the one he means to marry.
What he does not know is that Anne carries something far older than her father’s cloth shop.
A locket.
A ring.
And a story passed down through generations. Their marriage will carry them from Antwerp toward a new life in Hamburg. Together they will build a household. Raise a family. Learn what it means to begin again.
And discover that some of the most important things a family leaves behind cannot be measured in money or property. When the old way of carrying the family’s story threatens to end, Anne must find another way to pass it forward. A way that will outlast her voice. A way that will eventually reach someone not yet old enough to understand what has been placed in his hands.
The Locket and the Ledger is a historical romance and family saga inspired by real family history. It is where the journey begins.

What We Carry Forward
Every generation leaves something behind. Sometimes it is obvious. A home. A photograph. A piece of jewelry. A family business. A name. Sometimes it is something no one can see. A strength we inherited without knowing where it came from. A fear passed quietly through generations. A tradition no one remembers starting. A way of raising children. A belief. A warning.
A story.
We are all carrying something forward. Some of it we understand. Some of it we may never recognize. But somewhere behind us are people whose choices helped shape the world we entered. They could never have imagined us.
And yet, here we are. The Last Remembered Story is about looking backward and remembering that the people who came before us were more than names on a page.
They were living people.
And every one of them had a story.
