But when factor in the actual cost of maintaining that job, the commute, food, clothes, hygiene and more. The numbers often tell a story you are not expecting. Below we will break it down.
The Commute: A Hidden Expense
As an example from East Akron to downtown Akron via I-76.
- Distance: 15 miles round trip – 5 days a week
- Fuel Cost: $3.00 per gallon
- Vehicle Efficiency: 15 mpg
- Monthly Fuel Cost: $38.00
This is just fuel. Now think if there is a car payment, regular maintenance, insurance and depreciation on the vehicle your cost will climb significantly. You can safely estimate $150.00 to $200.00 for a modest car.

Even if you pack everything for work, it means an extra cost with snacks, beverages and products to take your food to work. Lets Break this down:
